Crash, Crime and Fire Reconstruction

Crash, Crime and Fire Documentation and Reconstruction

Precision 3D specializes in crash, crime, and fire documentation and reconstruction.  We have several experienced public safety professionals on our team, all of which spent decades documenting and reconstructing high profile scenes (homicides, officer involved shootings, fatal crashes, fatal fires, death investigations, etc.).  We collaborate closely to meet our clients’ individual needs.

Or expert scan technicians use state-of-the-art FARO laser scanners, drones, and forensic reconstruction software to preserve, analyze and reconstructing collision, crime, and fire scenes of all types.   With conventional techniques, subjective judgments can be made about what information should and shouldn’t be documented at the scene- our solutions capture hundreds of millions of precise data points to capture and recreate the scene in a highly accurate (1mm), unbiased way.

By using a 3D laser scanner, a more objective approach is used – everything within the line of sight of the laser is captured. By repeating the scan from additional positions and then merging the resulting data, a comprehensive 3D point cloud of the scene is created. This gives others the ability to “revisit” the scene as if they were present at the time the scanning took place- this is powerful during mediation and litigation.

Precision 3D’s scan technicians use industry-leading FARO laser scanners to collect up to 2 million measurement points per second with 1-3 mm accuracy at a range of up to 350 meters for each scan taken.  Our scanners digitally hash all scan data (data authenticity/ chain of custody) immediately post scan, which later gives you confidence in the courtroom.

Post scan, Precision 3D’s software specialists produce customized 2D and 3D deliverables to support criminal or civil courtroom testimony and all specific needs.  The point clouds and images generated by laser scanning provide irrefutable demonstrative evidence that can be used at mediation or trial. Opposing parties can be assured that subject/exemplar data (digitally hashed- authenticity) and evidence will be collected, documented, and shared in a manner consistent with stringent (NIST) standards and industry best practices.

What Are the Benefits of Laser Scanning Collision, Crime and Fire Sites?

  • Highly accurate (1-3 mm), unbiased data capture.

  • Unlimited measurement capabilities.

  • Fast, unobtrusive scene capture.

  • Non-contact scan method leaves scene untouched and undisturbed.

  • Quality data capture regardless of condition- rain or shine, day or night (no light needed).

  • Safe way to quickly document and measure buildings/ sites that are no longer structurally sound.

  • Elimination of costly return visits.  Once scanned- you can revisit the site virtually anytime.

  • Comprehensive, easy to use 3D point clouds/ digital twins and 2D CAD drawings.
